Do you plan to enroll a new dependent in a health or benefit plan during Open Enrollment (Oct. 26-Nov. 9)? Be sure to have the required dependent documentation ready before you begin. This year, documentation verifying your dependent’s eligibility is required at the time you enroll the dependent in the plan. Dependents are added in Workday.
You must upload the required documentation in Workday to complete dependent enrollment.
- Acceptable documentation may include a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or other documentation that verifies your dependent’s eligibility. For a complete list of acceptable documentation and dependent eligibility requirements, refer to the Benefits eligibility and enrollment page on the USC Benefits site.
- If official documentation is not yet available, we will accept provisional documentation (like a hospital birth record for newborns or church certificate).
- If your dependent is already listed in Workday and you are simply adding them to a benefit plan during Open Enrollment, you will not be required to provide eligibility documentation. This requirement applies only when you are adding a new dependent to Workday to enroll that dependent in a benefit plan.
Important: You must upload the required documentation in Workday to complete dependent enrollment – you will not be able to add a new dependent and provide the required documentation at a later time. We encourage you to gather your documents before Open Enrollment begins on Oct. 26 to help avoid delays in completing your elections.
