It goes without saying that USC faculty and staff are some of the most talented people around, and we love it when we’re able to showcase their incredible skills both at and outside of USC.
Janice Littlejohn is the Associate Director at the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities at USC, and she just started this Fall 2021 as an adjunct instructor for Annenberg’s Specialized Journalism program. If that’s not enough, she’s also a USC alumna, having graduated with a Master of Professional Writing in 2008.
On top of her work at USC, Janice recently wrote and had published a cover story in the 2021 summer issue of Loyola Marymount University’s LMU Magazine highlighting incoming USC Cinema student Stephanie Bell. As an award-winning student filmmaker from LMU, Bell’s 2020 capstone film, “Defending Our Crowns,” explores the fight for justice and Black hair, and she credits the work for helping her get into the USC’s Cinema School’s graduate program this fall.
The article is a must-read that spotlights not only Janice’s incredible knack for writing, but the deeper issues of social justice. In the profile feature, Janice included comments from Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell who was instrumental in Governor Newsome’s passing of the C.R.O.W.N. Act in California, the first state in the union to end race-based hair discrimination in the workplace and in K-12 public and charter schools.
